BUMPzee vs MyBlogLog update

February 20th, 2007 by Tatman

  1. One of my bumps made the widget. I’m interested to see how much traffic that’ll bring me as it gets to be morning rush on the East coast.
  2. The BUMPzee entries page is totally addictive. Before I knew it my comments were taking up half the page. I had to make myself close the tab.
  3. BUMPzee sends more than twice the unique visitors MyBlogLog does with a quarter of the effort, and my blog isn’t specifically about affiliate marketing, though I plan to do a series just for BUMPzee readers. The visitors who arrive make at least ten times the page views, no exaggeration.
  4. I love the Entries feature. It’s much clearer than Technorati’s WTF (and isn’t, you know, stupid, since its name basically tells you what it is for.)
  5. One thing I’d love to see on BUMPzee is a rolling place for BUMPzee-related questions. It feels rude to contact Scott through his page. Do you mind, Scott?

Conclusion: Though MyBlogLog brings a considerable amount of traffic, it seems to be meaningless. I’m going to see how much of a hit I take from removing the widget. If people are coming here just so their face appears on the page anyway, maybe it’s not worth it. Today starts a one week test.

I don’t mind the questions in my profile at all. But yeah, as things grow, I’m looking at the best way to allow an ongoing Q&A.

    Cool, thanks Scott. :)

MyBlogLog says they fixed the spam problem… but like I say it’s a matter of traffic quality.

MyBlogLog can actually bring exceptional quality traffic if you don’t use it as a set and forget traffic generator, but as an aid to finding and joining in other communities.

I also gain a great deal of link love from many MBL community members

    Sup Andy,

Great to see you here, I’ve been admiring your blog for weeks now, as you probably already know.

To your comment, I don’t disagree with you on the potential of MyBlogLog. I believe the point I’m trying to make is how intelligent it was for Scott to make the community targeted.

When I visit other blogs in MyBlogLog, regardless of topic, it’s hit or miss whether that person is going to stop by my blog (which is okay, because I’m not using it as much or pure traffic as networking).

But with BUMPzee, I’m getting a much higher quality of visit from people who come by - and here’s the part I didn’t expect, given the size of the community in comparison - a higher quantity as well.

    Tat,
I’ve no experience with Bumpzee. Just signed in to try it out.
Will get you some feedbacks eventually.
On MyBlogLog I got badly spammed at the beginning. OK now.

One other thing–I tried to enter my comment under your article:
“Damn Addictive Videos!” but unable to go through–Always an error message that said-”repeated entry deleted”. At the end I didn’t have
    my comment posted.

I’d suggest trying it, it’s a true community. For the videos, I’ve tested both logged in and logged out and I can’t seem to figure the problem. I’ll change browsers and see if I can duplicate the error.

Here is a sneaky insider tip

Get “in” with people like Mike Sansone, leave intelligent comments (that will be very easy for you). He has a lot of very intelligent marketing people he works with and read his blog, it is not pure IM, but they are very responsive.

It is a different style of blogging, rather than constantly demonstrating your knowledge, you are reaching out to the community, and including them in your content.

You must know all about other people’s traffic with the JV deals you have done. It is the same with blogging, and grabbing a bunch of PR6+ links seriously helps.

Obviously the traffic isn’t the same as a big Digg, but it is quality.

I am knot knocking BUMPzee in any way, it is a growing community and highly targetted - I get signups daily from my blog which is great, because I would love to have a “BUMPzee” culture, much like people like to cultivate Digg cultures
